Ekpo Okon Speaks Up, Knocks Gershom Bassey

Ekpo Okon

PDP Cross River Southern Senatorial District aspirant, Ekpo Okon, roundly accused of physically attacking Gershom Bassey, the senator representing the district, at yesterday’s primary election, this morning took to his Facebook wall, to lay his own side of the story bare, www.calitown.com can reveal.

The materials in question

Okon wrote: “Let people learn not to stand truth on the face. These were only 4 of the expected 8 bundles of ballot papers found in the vehicle of Sen Gershom Bassey. The remaining ones and the original result sheets were diverted by Azubike Femi Nwuke, a member of the Electoral panel to Gershom’s house . This is what led to the stalemate in respect of the PDP Senatorial Primaries in CR South. Shamelessly, the valiant, who subverted the Electoral process is now feigning attack and injury just to curry public sympathy. Just shameless.”

It was widely believed that materials meant for the exercise, completely supplied by the party, were held back by certain compromised persons within the party, leading to the violent exchanges at the Transcorp Hotel, Calabar, late Wednesday evening.

Pictures appeared online yesterday evening of an injured Gershom Bassey, wearing a blood stained bandage on his head while his left hand remained in a sling. He was said to have been taken to an undisclosed medical facility for treatment.
