Cross River State governor, Bassey Edet Otu, has appointed former university don, Anthony Assam Owan-Enoh, a Professor of Education, as the new Secretary to the Cross River State Government.

Also appointed by His Excellency to take up their appointments with immediate effect are, Emmanuel Ironbar, who is the governor’s Chief Of Staff, Okoi Ubi Obono, a retired Major General of the Nigerian Army, is the new State Security Adviser, Emmanuel Ipuole Ogbeche, is the new Chief Press Secretary, while Sylvester Otu Abang was named Acting Chief Of Protocol.

Three others, John Abang, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Patrick Odiong, a retired Navy Commander, and Achu Ben Olayi, were appointed Special Advisers on Security in charge of Cross River Central, Cross River South and Cross River North respectively, reporting to the State Security Adviser.

The new SSG, an alumnus of the University of Jos, Nigeria, was appointed a Professor in 2005, Provost of Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa, between 2008-2014 and Vice Chancellor of Cross River University of Technology (now UNICROSS) in 2014. On successful completion of his tenure as VC, he served a one-year sabbatical at the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), acting as Head of its Quality Assurance Unit.

Until this appointment, he had retired to a life of large scale farming, basic community development and politics.
