Bassey Edet Otu, Cross River State governor, has directed the “immediate suspension of the scheduled interviews for teaching positions at the Secondary Education Board.”
The announcement of this suspension, contained in a press release signed by Gill Nsa, Chief Press Secretary to the governor and made public this afternoon, maintained that the suspension became necessary to allow the state government complete a review of the due constitution of the State Secondary Education Board, which is presently receiving attention.
We were further informed by Government House, Calabar sources that the announcement of the scheduled interviews was done by the Director of Administration of the State Secondary Education Board, without due clearance. Nsa, in his release came clear that the “… action of the Director of Administration scheduling employment interviews is unauthorized as it is inappropriate for one individual to assume the responsibilities of the entire Board.”
“Therefore, the interviews are hereby postponed, and the Director of Administration is directed to promptly meet with the Secretary to the State Government”, he said.
Last week, the state governor also ordered the suspension of recent posting of principals done by the Board after suspicions emerged that money may have exchanged hands for some principals to be posted to schools considered more viable or others retained in schools of their choices.
