Gunmen Return, Shut Down Parts Of Ikom/Calabar Highway Again

Posted on November 18, 2022November 18, 2022 By Admin No Comments on Gunmen Return, Shut Down Parts Of Ikom/Calabar Highway Again
Stranded commuters at Okomita, Akamkpa LGA.

48 hours after gunmen struck on the Uyanga/Okomita axis of the Ikom/Calabar highway this week, abducting in the process, nine commuters who have since been rescued, sources on the ground have just informed www.calitown.com that human and vehicular traffic is building on that section of the road after another set of gunmen struck again, this Friday afternoon.

While our source on the ground called in a haste, in a bid to escape on foot, sporadic gunshots could be heard in the background as hasty steps made way to nearby bushes for cover. Field contacts and private investigations by www.calitown.com show that the gunmen took advantage of a tanker that broke down along that axis of the road to launch another attack, we however cannot say if they are casualty figures or abducted commuters.

A security source in Akamkpa informed www.calitown.com that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Akamkpa, has sent an SOS to his headquarters in Calabar. We were also informed that the CRS Commissioner of Police, newly posted to the state, Sule Balarabe, has been in a security meeting with some not-named security personnel with a view to further mobilize and dispatch combat ready policemen to the area.

At press time, human and vehicular traffic was yet to be restored, with commuters afraid and stranded.
