Worried by the deplorable condition of the Akarafor-Ekureku I, Primary Health Care Centre in Abi Local Government, Cross River Central, members of the National Association of Seadogs a.k.a Pyrates Confraternity, Red Barracuda Zone, have embarked on an extensive renovation of the health care facility, in what they describe as “part of their corporate social responsibility to their immediate environment.”
Emmanuel I. Ibor, Zonal President, Red Barracuda Zone, who wrote in to inform www.calitown.com about this development, insisted that “as a humanitarian organization incorporated in 1952, one of our key mandate is to protect the weak and needy by promoting and supporting humanitarian and charitable deeds.”
His letter added that, “the current deplorable state of the PHC centre clearly implied that the people of Ekureku, especially pregnant women, children, and other vulnerable persons have no immediate access to primary health care services. It fanned our desire to renovate the PHC centre for the well-being of the people of Ekureku and that we have done.”
The facility, overgrown with weeds and abandoned, has been restored and equipped with functional beds, mattresses, bedsheets, chairs, tables, some medical supplies. The borehole has also been repaired and is functioning.
We were further informed that the renovated facility will be handed over to officials of the Abi Local Government Council, led by the Chairman of Council, Farathor Robinson, this Saturday, November 12, 2022, in a ceremony that will also be witnessed by eminent persons as well as sons and daughters of the community.
