Jarigbe at the event

Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, Member of Parliament, MP, who represents Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has thrown his weight behind the just concluded Aya Beach Peninsula Picnic, a picnic last staged 18 years ago, pledging to lend further support to the expansion and sustenance of the initiative.

Jarigbe who spoke at the venue of the picnic in Ogoja, North of Cross River, came clear that he remembers how Aya Beach was the melting entertainment pot for people from the North of Cross River and beyond each time they gathered at the beach. “There always was an open display of love and unity. People came here, sat down and compared notes on community developmental efforts in the academics and business and we indeed were our neighbour’s keeper” he said. He sued for peace among the younger generation while wishing his constituents a merry Christmas and a beautiful new year ahead.

Ntol Mgbeje III

Ntol Ama Mgbeje III, monarch of Nkim, Ogoja LGA, present at the occasion, disclosed that his palace decided to support this initiative because it guarantees the unity of the people. He added that revitalising the picnic was also critical to the growth and development of the area, praying that those behind the initiative will properly market it so that the benefits will be there for all to see.

DC Enahme, chatting with guests at the event.

DC Enamhe, one of the organisers of the event, said he was glad Aya Beach Peninsula Picnic was back to unite the people of Ogoja, irrespective of religious bias or political affiliation and hoped that the days ahead will see them packaging a better organized picnic.

There was dancing, canoe paddling, snooker and best palmwine competitions as well as a solidariy table tennis match played between Jarigbe Agom and DC Enamhe. A minute silence was observed for a few regulars to the occasion, who had passed on.
