Police Restricts Movement As LG Elections Hold In Cross River

As Local Government elections are scheduled to hold in Cross River State tomorrow, Saturday November 2, 2024, the state Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has ordered the restriction of movement across all 18 local government areas of the state. 

A CRS police command release, signed by Irene Ugbo, a Superintendent of Police and Police Public Relations, CRS command, on behalf of the CP, maintained that: “This restriction will be in effect from 6:00 am on Saturday, November 2, 2024 till 6:00 pm same day.”

“The restriction is implemented to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the electoral process, allowing citizens to exercise their voting rights peacefully.”

“Only those on essential duties, such as medical personnel, accredited election observers and security personnel, will be permitted to move within restricted areas. All other movements within the state are prohibited during this period.”

“Members of the public are urged to adhere strictly to this directive and avoid any actions that may disrupt the peace or compromise the success of the elections. The Police Command will work closely with sister security agencies to enforce this restriction and to ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the election period.”

The release further states that: “The Commissioner of Police appeals to all citizens to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with the law enforcement agencies and assures the public of the Command’s commitment to a peaceful and credible election process in Cross River State.”
