Villagers at the river bank after the corpse surfaced.

The Okuni community in Ikom Local Government Area, Cross River Central, has been thrown into tension and mourning after a young man believed to be in his mid twenties, simply identified to www.calitown.com as Ntibor and known popularly in the area as “Blaq Samy”, drowned in the river running through the community.

Competent sources in the village informed that the deceased “went to the river on Sunday afternoon to bath. He entered the river and swam for only a short distance before a young girl who was there noticed that he had not surfaces. She accordingly raised an alarm that attracted several villagers to the place.”

The efforts of a search party and local divers, immediately deployed to the river, yielded no positive result. All through this past Sunday into the night and till Monday, the deceased was not found. “It was in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) that we saw his lifeless body floating.” We gather that the deceased was buried not too long ago.

At press time, there was still palpable tension in the community as some community members appear to believe that invisible foul play may have dealt the deceased a blow. While there is no verifiable evidence, the father of the deceased has been forced to flee from the community after he was suspectedly fingered in the death.
