The coronation of His Royal Majesty, Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng as the 16th Obol Lopon of Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, Cross River State, will take place on Friday, June 26, 2015, at the Ugep Royal palace, palace sources have informed www.calitown.com

The event is expected to attract dignitaries from within and outside the community to celebrate a monarchy dating back to 40 decades. Similarly, in a release signed by Sebastine Eko, Chairman of the coronation’s Media Sub-Committee informs that the ceremony will commence at 7am, with the coronation proper billed for 10am. It will be closely followed by a royal procession through the ancient routes of the community before the grand reception at mid-day.

The Cross River State Chief Judge and Chairman of the Grand Reception Committee, Hon. Justice Okoi Ikpi Itam, will address the gathering at the grand reception as will Oka Martins, a Professor of Sociology. The release further states that the ceremony will also feature cultural displays and entertainment. Expected to grace the occasion will be state governor, Ben Ayade and his deputy, Ivara Esu, as well as top government functionaries. A thanksgiving service holding on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Ugep at 10am, will close the occasion. It is on record that the Obol Lopon of Ugep was among the first class chiefs that occupied the Eastern Regional House of Assembly in the first Republic, 1963-66. Already Ugep is agog with the town dotted with colorful traditional decorations and dance preparations.

The coronation of a new Obol Lopon is sequel to the recent transition the very referred Obol Ubi Ujong Inah, the 15th Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr Local Government Area.

The Obol Lopon-Elect was untill his election to the stool, a Master Warrant Officer and Chief Clerk, Amphibious Training School, Calabar.
