Florence Obi, Unical VC

The University of Calabar has been granted a formal approval from the National Universities Commission, NUC, to establish a College of Education.

This information was conveyed in a letter issued to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar by the NUC’s Acting Director, Academic Planning, on behalf of the Acting Executive Secretary, Abubakar Girei.

The proposed College of Education is expected to house the Faculty of Science Education, Faculty of Arts & Social Science Education, Faculty of Educational Foundation Studies and the Faculty of Vocational and Entrepreneurial Education.

Following the approval, the already approved programmes offered in the defunct Faculty of Education under the auspices of their respective departments are to be moved without delay to the newly approved College of Education.

This decision is coming on the heels of a facility verification visit conducted by a panel of experts from December 17 to 24, 2024, to ascertain the Unical’s preparedness in terms of availability of physical resources, to establish the proposed academic units.
