UnicalInformation at the disposal of www.calitown.com indicates that the Governing Council of the University of Calabar, Unical, is moving swiftly to wade into the disagreement between the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Zana Akpagu and Bursar, Peter Agi, which resulted in the violent protest at the institution, early this week.

Multi-millionaire, Emmanuel Iwanyanwu, who heads the institution’s Governing Council, is expected in Calabar tomorrow, Friday, August 19, 2016, as leader of delegation, in a move sources hope will restore a harmonious working relationship between the feuding duo.

There is however a section of watchers who believe the Council may be unable to persuade power players in the institution to let Agi keep his job in the face of visible animosity that has played out. Pro-Akpagu supporters are insisting that no matter what the Council does, it “must not be seen as working to keep a Bursar who has demonstrated that he cannot take instructions from the V-C or work amicably with him. Agi cannot be bigger than the V-C”, a source in Unical told www.calitown.com.

“Peter Agi in his wildest imagination, should not have squared up to Zana Akpagu. Akpagu is not former V-C Epoke, who ignored Agi, in all he did, against Epoke. I think too that Agi should have understood that his brother, Joe Agi, is in court, dragging the seat of governor with Ben Ayade, the Cross River State governor and if he fights Akpagu, Ayade’s kinsman, the outcome will be unfavourable for him the bursar”, an independent source insisted, over the phone. One Agi supporter maintained in a phone conversation with www.calitown.com that, “God will fight and put to shame most of the people who believe that the bursar, who is insisting on following the right financial procedures in the discharge of his functions must cowtow to greedy demands”.

We can again confirm that a handful of persons arrested in the institution on the heels of the protest, have been expressly charged to court by the police, court sources say. Order has since been restored in the institution.
