It looks certain, www.calitown.com can report, that authorities of the University of Calabar are not resting in a bid to own up to administrative errors on her part that resulted in the recent furor which greeted the August 12, 2015, letter written by the institution and signed by the Registrar, Moses Abang, purporting that House of Representatives member, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, who represents Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, did not graduate from Unical.

The University in a letter dated September 21, 2015, with reference number, UC/R.10, also signed by Abang and addressed to Matthew Ojua & Co. of Plot 943, Mabushi-Abuja, (said to be the law firm Jarigbe retains), took back the content of the earlier letter, dated August 12, 2015, based on “new information available” to the institution.

That “new information” believed to be a more thorough investigation into the matter by authorities of Unical, led to Abang writing and stating thus; “Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe could not graduate along with his set during the 1997/98 academic session because he had some courses to repeat. This was not noticed by the Head of Department hence her letter to the Registrar dated 28th July, 2015”.

Continuing, Abang’s letter further states that, “He (Jarigbe) was to re-write the affected courses in the Long Vacation degree examination conducted for him during the 2003/2004…and was graded and passed the examination and was eventually awarded a Second Class Honours Degree,Lower Division”. The letter concludes by saying, “Based on the aforementioned, the certificate presented by Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe is authentic”.

Sources in Jarigbe’s camp maintain that those behind the August 12, 2015 letter were politically motivated to act, hoping to cause the House of Reps member considerable political damage. While another source fell short of mentioning names, investigations show that Jarigbe’s opponent in the elections that took him to the lower legislative chamber, Obi Odu, a retired major, has remained daggers drawn and is contesting the outcome of the election in court.
