Visitors Flee C’R Community After Man Is Killed During New Yam Festival

Posted on October 27, 2018October 28, 2018 By Admin No Comments on Visitors Flee C’R Community After Man Is Killed During New Yam Festival

Several people who flocked to Assiga Community in Yakurr Local Government Area, Cross River State, for the annual Assiga New Yam festival, took hasty flight from about 3:00pm today, Saturday, October 27, 2018, after a man was shot and killed in what has been described as “fetish circumstances”.

Monitored reports from the area maintain that, one Enang Onun Itam, a secondary school teacher and the deceased, John Akpama, who were gaily dressed in native war attire and headed for the venue of the festival, may have taken large doses of a black concoction believed to be local bulletproof.

Buoyed on by the supposed efficacy of the concoction and the desire to show proof of it, Akpama volunteered to be shot at. Itam, the www.calitown.com reporter in the area was told, loaded the hunting rifle he was carrying and shot Akpama, killing him on the spot.

The killing we hear, threw Assiga New Town into confusion as many people took flight. Cars and motorcycles left the community and the corpse was hurriedly taken away as friends and family members of the deceased remained in shock. Most people in the community refused to talk to the www.calitown.com reporter, reporting from the area, as palpable fear has gripped the entire community.
