Youths from Yakurr Local Government Area, Cross River State, grouped under the Yakurr Youths Peace Progressive Forum, YYPPF, have made a pledge to maintain peace in all communities in the LGA and stay committed to this pledge for the growth and development of the area.
The group, on a visit to the State Security Adviser, SSA, Okoi Ubi Obono, in Calabar, further maintained that the process of peace in their LGA will be vigorously enhanced and pursued especially now that the SSA and the Head of Homeland Security (Central), Felix Arikpo, are indigenes of the LGA.
Significant steps, they added, will be taken among them to identify youths in the LGA, whose activities have the capacity to threaten their pursuit of peace, security and stability. Specifically they swore to maintain zero tolerance for cults and related activities. “We have a rare opportunity to demonstrate that we can collectively as young people, take our positive destiny in our hands, work collaboratively with the security apparatus and make our state a safer place to live in”, they stated in the message they handed the SSA.
Welcoming them, the SSA, who spoke through the Head of Homeland Security (Central), Felix Arikpo, insisted that the visit and demonstrable commitment on YYPPF part to ensure peace reigns in all communities was timely and welcome, considering the negative youth-driven issues that continue to plague most communities in the state.
Arikpo while assuring them that their visit and mission will be communicated to state governor, Bassey Otu, who has consistently given young people governance roles in the state, expressed happiness that their disposition will make the SSA and his team’s work easier and serve as a model for other LGAs in the state to emulate.
“Your visit is a morale booster, your commitment today, a thing of joy. This exceptional window of opportunity that you have embraced, especially that you have promised to move away from unserious things; is the reason God will bless us all. Thank you for coming and may your journey back be guided by God”, he concluded.
