ZONING: Group Warns Niger Gov Against Tampering With Presidential Directive Zoning APC Secretary Position To South-South

The leadership of the group, APC Eastern Network, APEN, has congratulated, Niger State governor, Sani Bello, on his emergence as Acting Chairman of the CECPC. The group further believes that Bello’s emergence was long overdue as the former chairman has been unable to conduct the National Convention after twenty months.

They demanded that the new chairman will support the decision of President Buhari by zoning the position of APC National Secretary to the South-South and Deputy National Chairman (South) to the South-East ahead of the National Convention slated for March 26, 2022.

We believe the decision by Mr President is to strengthen the party in both regions.

Director General of APEN, Kalu Eberechi, in a press release signed and made available, expressed believe in the Bello led Caretaker Committee and trusting that the zoning arrangement will be maintained to strengthen the party in the South-South and South-East regions.

For the South-South being the region with the most vibrant youth population in Nigeria, the group again expressed believe that the zoning arrangement which zoned the position of National Youth Leader of the APC to the South-South, will be upheld as this will help the fortunes of the party.

However, as a body, APEN maintains that, “we shall mobilize our members out of the party if the zoning arrangement is tempered with. We contributed the most to the bringing of APC to the centre. And we won’t accept the continuous marginalization in the sharing of offices both at the party level and the government. You may recall that even with two years left of the Adams Oshiomole tenure, he was removed unconstitutionally and instead of replacing him with someone from the same zone, he was replaced by Gov. Buni from North East.”

“So we demand that as accepted by Mr President, all positions previously held by the North East should be given to the South-South as not only a way to compensate our region but for justice and fairness. We stand by the decision of Mr President and anything contrary will not be accepted by the South-South people”, the release said.
