Eleven years after Nigeria’s senior men’s football team, the Super Eagles won the AFCON trophy, the Eagles are in the finals of the tournament after defeating Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a pulsating match that went into penalties.

The Super Eagles had played a one all draw with the South Africans in regulation time before they triumphed in a penalty shootout, 4-2, to relegate her opponents to a third place match and face host country, Cote D’Ivoire, in the the finals on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Sports Development Minister, John Owan Enoh, has hailed the team for the hard fought victory over the South African team.
Taking to his verified X account, Enoh hailed the team for showing “… us all that the Nigerian spirit is a winning spirit. You are conquering the continent one match at a time. Bravo, heroes of our time! Congratulations”, Enoh wrote.
