In a bid to help redirect the energy of young people away from the negative things that appear to presently occupy them in the community, first runner up at this year’s Mr. Leboku edition, Gabby Offem, has received glowing commendation for organizing the hugely successful “Yakurr Security Conference”, in Ugep.

Ofem Obeten, chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, who made the commendation, when he chaired the event, explained that he was highly impressed that the first runner up, had with the event, kept to the promise he made on the night of the paegent, when he said that he was going to work at positively engaging young people in the LGA with conferences like the one he just put together. The local council boss made it clear that he will continue to support positive initiatives like this as it was a pathway to long lasting peace in the LGA.

Speakers at the event, drawn from a pool of young persons within the community, pointed out a road map that will help the LGA effectively tackle youth restiveness and the menace of cultism in the area.

Convener of the event, Gabby Ofem, said he decided to embark on this effort because most local communities in the LGA are having to cope with youth restiveness, cultism, insecurity and several other vices that are unsettling the peace and security of the area. He also thanked the LG boss for supporting the initiative as well as the management of the Institute of Technology and Management, ITM, Ugep

The conference had in attendance, students from secondary schools across Yakurr LGA and beyond as well as youths who interacted positively during the event.
