TRAGIC: Dog Eats Owner’s Genitals In Calabar

Residents of No. 2 Jebbs Street, Calabar South, Cross River State, are still trying to unravel how and why a little dog could bite off the private part of its owner leading to his tragic death during this yuletide period.

The victim, Ani Offiong Offiong, from Ikoneto in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state and resident at Jebbs Street in Calabar- South Local Government Area on the eve of Christmas, is believed to have too much alcohol and retired to his apartment without locking his door.

Residents of the area say he urinated and excreted on his body while lying on the floor of his parlour and one of his dogs, drawn to the odour of the excreta, went into the house and ate the excreta and in the process, bit off the private part of the man.

First son of the man, Offiong Offiong Ani, told our reporter that he was not around when the incident happened but when he came back, his cousin, Etim narrated to him what happened and that the little dog has been killed and thrown away. He said the dog was brought to the deceased by a man who was to train as a herbalist under the deceased.
“The man had two dogs, Tiger, the big dog and the fatal little dog that had no name and it was the little one that did it because we saw blood on its mouth and nose, the deceased nephew explained. ” When my uncle screamed, I tried to get inside thinking it was hoodlums that attacked him but he pointed at his private part and I saw blood I ran outside”.

Etim said it was some neighbour who went in and tried to save the man but before they could clean the man and take him to hospital it was too late and the man died on the way.

“It was really late at night and going by the time of year, it was difficult to find a means to take him to the hospital and even then most hospitals were not open at that time of the night”. He said the deceased was buried the next day at Hawkins cemetery in Calabar- South.

Irene Ugbo, the Cross River Police Command spokesman said the police had not been informed of the incident…”I have not heard about the incident and I don’t think our division in Calabar- South is aware of it, they would have reported the matter”
