Cross River CP Present Cheques Worth N43m To 25 Families Of Deceased Police Officers

Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Grimah Gyogon, has presented cheques, worth forty three million, four hundred and ten thousand, twenty four naira, thirty Kobo (N43,410,024.30) on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police to the families of deceased Police officers.

Gyongon who made the presentation in Calabar, said the gesture, an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police Group Life Assurance and Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare, said the gesture is geared towards improving the living standards of families of police operatives that lost their lives in the line of duty.

He further urged the recepients to invest the money in profitable ventures, in memory of the officers who died while in active service.

One of the beneficiaries, Fabian Ilop, on behalf of the beneficiaries, appreciated the Inspector General of Police as well as the Commissioner of Police for the gesture and promised to make good use of the money.

In a related development, the Cross River State Police Command, has paraded a welder Oliver Umoren, for allegedly kidnapping one Uduak, a female and prophetess, alongside 19 others for various crimes.

Briefing newsmen at the state Police Command Headquarters in Calabar, Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, said the 20 suspects were arrested for various crimes within four months.

According to her, their offences ranged from kidnapping, rape, armed robbery, cultism to unlawful possession of firearms, among others.

According to Ugbo, of the 20 suspects arrested, 14 have been charged to court while the remaining six would also be charged as soon as investigations are concluded.

She further explained that 14 persons were arrested over cult related activities, three for armed robbery, others for rape, kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms while items recovered from the suspects include phones, laptops, locally made pistols, criminal charms, indian hemp amongst others.
