The member representing Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, Cross River State, in the House of Representatives, Alex Egbona, has revealed that the story of his life cannot be completely written without boldly mentioning former Cross River State governor, Liyel Imoke, for the political opportunities he handed him.

Egbona who spoke as guest on “The Public View”, the Saturday morning news and current affairs programme on HIT 95.9 FM, Calabar, further disclosed that, “Imoke is my master. I was his Chief of Staff and he provided opportunities for me to grow. Even if I have disagreed with him politically, that was during elections, immediately after the elections were over, everything was put behind us and our relationship continued; he is my boss.”

On a recent declaration by Imoke that Egbona is the political leader of Abi Local Government Area, CRS, Egbona said he was humbled by this declaration by his boss, who is in a different political party but stoutly maintained that “even if His Excellency says I am the political leader, he remains our general leader because of what he has achieved politically.”

Asked to throw light on his bill for the establishment of a federal medical centre in Itigidi, Abi LGA, Egbona came clear that, “if you realise that Cross River State, is the only state in Nigeria without a federal medical centre, you now begin to see that beyond this anomaly, there is the present need to bring qualified and specialist medicare to our people.

Pressed for comments on the abandoned multi-billion naira Songhai Farms in Abi, Egbona said, “I was with the governor, last Tuesday evening and I drew his attention to Songhai Farms; something will be done soon. Additionally, I am currently talking with relevant agencies of government on Songhai and I am positive that the outcome of these engagements will meet the collective desire of our hearts.”

“Let me commend the youths of Bahumono in Abi LGA, for tirelessly working for peace. I want to specifically mention here that for efforts presently being made by these youthsto see how Ebijakara people can return to their ancestral home, I will complement this efforts and work at accelerating the actualisation of that return”, he said, when quizzed on the Ebom/Ebijakara conflict and the sacking of Ebijakara community from their ancestral home.
