Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Eteng Jonah Williams, has cleared the outstanding medical bills of 21 patients and newborns at the Holy Family Joint Hospital, Ikom. The beneficiaries, who had been discharged but remained hospitalized due to an inability to pay, were finally released after the senator’s timely intervention.
Williams said the gesture was part of his commitment to bringing relief to his constituents and a further demonstration the love and sacrifice embodied by Jesus Christ and the celebration of Easter.
“No economic situation should prevent anyone from celebrating the death and resurrection of Christ or experiencing God’s faithfulness,” the senator said.
The senator emphasized that his action was not just a seasonal gesture but a reflection of Christ-like virtues of love, sacrifice, and compassion. “As at now, over seventeen patients and two newborns with delicate conditions have been discharged and are now able to return home,” he added.
One of the beneficiaries, Mbeh Blessing, expressed deep gratitude: “He has rescued us when we couldn’t pay the bills. May God continue to bless him so that he can keep caring for his people as he is doing.”
In addition to footing medical bills, Williams also took out time to inspect hospital facilities and assured the management that he will intervene to help improve the quality of healthcare in the senatorial district.
