While the Balegete Community, Becheve Ward, Obanliku Local Government Area, Cross River State, is in mourning, following the untimely death of a community member, identified to www.calitown.com as Lovelyn Makia Achue, Peter Akpanke, who represents Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku federal constituency, has quickly come to the aid of the bereaved family in a show of compassion.
Akpanke when contacted by www.calitown.com on this tragedy, informed us that, “immediately my attention was drawn to this very unfortunate and tragic incident, I directed my Personal Assistant and Legislative Aide to move the surviving babies from Balegete Community to Sacred Heart Hospital, Obudu, for proper medical attention and also approved an immediate financial support of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (?500,000) to be handed to the family, in the first instance, to assist in fixing the immediate needs of the kids and the family. God will help us do more for them in their moment of deep pain”
While it has been medically declared that the deceased died of postpartum Hamorrhage (PPH) on her way to seek proper medical attention after child birth, Akpanke exclusively confided that he has “reached out to the Director General of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Vivian Otu, drawing her attention to the ugly incident and to appeal for the urgent establishment of a more sustainable health care center in the distant Balegete Community and other communities across our federal constituency to avoid future occurrences.”
