Williams, receiving blessings from the Obol Lopon of Mkpani.

There is visible excitement in Mkpani community, Yakurr Local Government Area, Cross River State, as heavy-duty construction equipment moved in and commenced construction of the two-kilometre ring road linking the Aduma, Afaben, and Ajere communities in the area.

The project, officially launched by Eteng Williams, representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, in Nigeria’s senate, is a strategic move aimed at strengthening rural infrastructure and improving the quality of life for his people.

While the presence of construction equipment has lifted spirits, the road is expected to significantly ease transportation, facilitate easier market access for farmers, and accelerate urban development within the area.

The new ring road complements the ongoing Mkpani–Agoi Road project being executed by the Cross River State Government and is projected to serve as a catalyst for economic growth. By easing transportation challenges, the road will improve access to markets, boost agricultural productivity, and providing infrastructure supports for sustainable local livelihoods.

Commendation for the project is pouring in from traditional rulers, community leaders, and political stakeholders, who described the project as a demonstration of transformative leadership that prioritizes the needs of the people. The construction of rural roads, according to observers, fulfils one of Williams’ key campaign promises to constituents across the senatorial district.

Other road infrastructure projects facilitated by the senator include the grading of access roads in Iyamoyong, Okumurutet, and Iyamitet in Obubra Local Government Area; grading of Agba I and Agba II rural roads in Boki Local Government Area; grading of Okundi, Irruan, and Wula roads also in Boki; as well as the grading of the Abia–Bakassi Road in Etung Local Government Area.

Speaking on the project, Williams assured constituents of sustained development efforts, stating: “This is just the beginning; more projects are on the horizon to transform our communities.”
