Calm Returns To Ogoja After Murder Of Woman By Boyfriend Sparked Unrest

Posted on March 30, 2026 By Admin No Comments on Calm Returns To Ogoja After Murder Of Woman By Boyfriend Sparked Unrest
L-R: Late Moshie Igu & Malime Ejor.

Calm has gradually returned to Ogoja, Cross River North, after a 35-year-old man, identified as Malime Ejor, allegedly murdered his girlfriend, one Moshie Igu, 26, at a farm in Nwang village, Ekajuk, Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Igu was reportedly taken to a stream, where deep machete cuts were inflicted on her by Ejor, ultimately resulting in her death on Saturday, March 28, a situation Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Command, Sunday Eitokpah, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, has since confirmed.

For most parts of Monday, large pockets of angry mobs, comprising men, women and children, from Nwang I & II and other parts of Ekajuk Clan, Ogoja, took to the streets of Ogoja, demanding the police release the suspect to them for jungle justice. Combined security agents had a hard time warding off the charged crowd, even using teargas to beat and push back the protesters.

“Nobody will be happy that his or her daughter is killed in this kind of circumstance. Apart from the shock of what has happened, what we have witnessed is a voluntary mass movement of grieving people, bound together by pain. This show of anger simply means we cannot let this whole unfortunate incident be swept under the carpet. Justice must be done”, one indigene who pleaded anonymity told www.calitown.com

We can confirm that the eight protesters who were arrested by the police, have since been released.

While the victim’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital Mortuary, Ogoja, the suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
