The Cross River state government has confirmed the isolation of 10 persons who interacted with the Chinese national, identified to be infected with COVID-19.
Inyang Ekpenyong, the state Epidemiologist, who made this disclosure, said the 10 were isolated after health officials carried out contact tracing, shortly after the confirmation of the index case involving the 53-year-old Chinese national working with Lafarge in Akamkpa LGA, was discovered. He arrived Nigeria from China on March 17 and later developed symptoms. While the Chinese national is stable, non of the 10 in isolation appear to show any symptoms of Covid-19, at press time.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, maintains that, response measures were immediately activated after the case was confirmed, in collaboration with state authorities and partners. Jide Chris, director-general of the centre, said the detection of the case demonstrates that the agency’s surveillance systems remain active and advised members of the public to remain cautious and adhere to basic health measures.
