The hugely successful Bridge Foundation, a non-profit leadership and capacity development foundation committed to building a generation of young people empowered to make the right career choices, yesterday at the main bowl of the Cultural Centre, Calabar, provided the platform for a startling revelation by Gov. Liyel Imoke of Cross River State.
Imoke told the packed hall of more than 3,000 participants that contrary to widely held views, he never stole money during his tenure as Power and Steel minister. It was revealed to calitown.com that the clarification may have become neccessary because of the insinuations in certain quarters that Imoke may have made a fortune from the PHCN privatization during his spell in the ministry.
Imoke said that when the heat became too intense, he ran to former President Obasanjo who told him, “don’t be discouraged young man, all those accusing you of stealing are telling you what they would have done if they were the ones appointed to public office”. He added that he found consolation in Obasanjo’s counsel and went on to deliver on his mandate. Gov. Imoke enjoined teeming youths gathered at the centre to take advantage of what the Foundation is offering so they can make a success of themselves.
The 2013 edition of the programme with the theme “The Crisis of Leadership”, is the third to be organized in Calabar following in the steps of the 2012 edition which had entreprising twins Titus and Tobias Igwe, founders of Speedmeals Kitchen, Nigeria, as well as bestselling author of the book, “From School Dropout To Corporate Sellout”, Steve Harris, mentoring youths drawn from across the state and beyond.
We hear am oh, how can we verify that kind of claim when we do not have access to public document? It was best the governor told us what a hardworking person he is, it is very obvious he is hard working, I would have stayed off the money stealing offensive, I am sure in the future the governor would make note of that. Otherwise kudos to the leader
