Cross River Poised To Experience Drop In IGR

Posted on July 22, 2015July 22, 2015 By Admin No Comments on Cross River Poised To Experience Drop In IGR

Copy of NEW LOGO OF CRSWhile the Cross river State government has demonstrated a willingness to shore up her internally generated revenue base, sources within government are insisting that the Ben Ayade government is presently approaching the issue from a faulty angle and looks poised to experience a drop in her internally generated revenue, IGR, , www.calitown.com can report.

First, the sources insist, government has made no efforts to release funds in the last couple of months to high yielding revenue agencies like the Waste Management Agency, Cross River Geographic Information Agency, the Internal Revenue Service, among others; agencies which on a normal day can account for around N7 billion a month in internally generated revenue. At present, most of these agencies have not received subvention from government in the last couple of months, making it increasingly difficult to operate.

Investigations by www.calitown.com show that in most of these agencies, because of the complete absence of subventions, work is almost at a standstill. It was also appalling to find in the course of our investigation that these agencies are presently unable to purchase fuel, stationery, replace dead bulbs and drive revenue yielding processes. One source who elects to remain anonymous pointed out that, “this government seems not to understand the importance of funding our agencies. You cannot starve an agency which generates around N180 million a month of operational funds and expect it to perform. Those who are advising the governor at this stage need to understand that if we do not get the much-needed subventions, it will be extremely difficult to do our work. I mean, if we cannot afford to buy common stationery, how are we suppose to function?”

However, sources close to the Governor Ben Ayade seem to hold the opinion that government “will release funds to these agencies in the next one week. I think the governor is aware that he cannot starve these critical agencies of funds and if in the next one week he doesn’t approve the release of funds, he can only blame himself for any drop in the internally generated revenue figures, something that is obviously not good.”
