“Imoke And Obono-Obla Will Make Peace But…” – Obol Lopon Of Ugep

His Royal Majesty, Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng, the Obol Lopon of Ugep, has informed www.calitown.com that former governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke and civil rights lawyer, Okoi Ofem Obono-Obla, who have been daggers drawn over the latter’s insistence that Imoke must give account of his eight year stewardship as governor of the state, will make peace in due course as efforts continue on Imoke’s part to see the monarch prevail on Obla to drop his dogged legal pursuits against him and several key functionaries who served under his administration.

The monarch who spoke with www.calitown.com early this morning confirmed that a delegation of chiefs from Imoke’s native Abi Local Government Area, who paid him a visit recently, proposed that Obla’s legal fees in lieu of several petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, be defrayed by Imoke, a proposal Obla has resolutely turned down. He maintains that “it is not out of place for these two sons of this land to disagree but as a father I have to help them see how peace can be made in the interest of all”.

One source who spoke on this development maintained to www.calitown.com that “finally Imoke and his spin doctors who wrote in several national dailies that Obla is a liar and failed lawyer are running from pillar to post and soliciting that he pursues no further, his rights to demand that these people pay back all they have taken from a very poor Cross River State. How come they are no more convinced that Obla is a liar?”.

Meanwhile, Obol Eteng says tomorrow, August 13, 2015, a key element who has written several petitions against the administrators of the Institute of Technology and Management, ITM, Ugep, will be summoned to the town square to prove the allegations he made in a recent petition making the rounds. He expressed sadness that rather than work for the development of the institution, several persons are working hard to discredit the work done so far by the administrators of the institution.

Hear him; “it was on the basis of these petitions that I went to the school to see things for myself. When I got there, the administrators were kind enough to give me a breakdown of their total staff strength and I was unhappy that someone from the local community had issues with staff composition. The school has 119 staff and 61 of those staff are from the local community. Are we saying that what these people earn is not boosting our local economy? These things must stop”, the monarch maintained.

Please always confirm your stories to ensure accuracy. This whole story is a figment of the author’s imagination. It is within the right of Obla to insist on accountability but he cannot convict Imoke on facebook. Only a court of competent jurisdiction can determine the veracity or otherwise of the allegations Obla is making. Besides, Imoke enjoys the presumption of innocence and the law places the onus of proof on the person who alleges . Since the allegations are criminal in nature, the standard of proof is beyond reasonable doubt. The ball is in Obla’s court now. Unless he is begging to be begged. To the the best of my knowledge, Imoke is a thorough and modest gentleman with a very sound background. His humble, middling and veracious lifestyle bear eloquent testimonies to this effect.
