Late Ufot Ekaette

A valedictory Executive Council Session has been held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in honour of Nigeria’s longest serving Secretary to the Government, SGF, the late Ufot Joseph Ekaette, who passed away three months ago and is slated for burial this week in Akwa Ibom State.

The session, presided over by Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, in honour of Ekaette, also a former deputy governor of the state, was attended by his widow, Jane Ufot Ekaette, family members, top government functionaries and well wishers. The session was an opportunity used to extol the virtues of this accomplished civil servant, administrator and politician who meritoriously grew through the ranks to the apogee of his chosen profession.

Ekaette who died at 80, was appointed SGF in May 1999 by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo and served in that position for eight years before the late Nigerian President, Umaru Yar’adua appointed him the first minister of the Niger Delta Affairs ministry.
