CR Pays N1.9bn to 20, 000 Workers

The Cross River State government pays N1. 945 billion naira a month to 20, 000 workers, sources within the state have informed calitown.com. The 20, 000 figure represents the total number of staff in her civil service., across all cadre.

However, the sources say, the amount paid out every month “is not static” and could either increase or go down depending on the number of promotions given and captured in the payroll system, the number of retirements and resignations from service, deaths as well as other variables that can affect the upward or downward movement of the wage bill.

On the introduction of the Budget Accounting Management Information Systems, BATMIS, an integrated financial management system employed by government for accountable financial options, one source informed that it has made it possible for government to effectively monitor her financial position, make timely payments and increase efficiency in the system.

For contractors in the state, information gathered further revealed, government has concluded arrangements to pay them electronically and not physically anymore. Additionally, all major revenue services will be automated in CR before the end of 2014.

    We are not doing badly, we should learn to cut down on our overheads and explore alternative sources of revenue. What happens if the oil we rely on dries up?
