Cross River State Owes LG Pensioners N4.7bn

Posted on August 5, 2015August 5, 2015 By Admin No Comments on Cross River State Owes LG Pensioners N4.7bn

Copy of NEW LOGO OF CRSWhile there has been serious hue and cry over the non-payment of pensions and gratuities in Cross River State, in recent times, investigations by www.calitown.com show that the Cross River State Government owes local government pensioners a whooping N4.7bn as outstanding unpaid gratuities, death benefits and pension arrears. The amount, calculated to the end of June, 2015 stands at exactly N4.728, 814,455.00.

The investigations further revealed three accounts in two banks, Ecobank, Ediba Road Branch, and Zenith Bank on Clement Ebri Drive, all in Calabar, with a combined figure of N46, 408, 294. 81 sitting in the accounts. It is unclear at press time why attempts have not been made to pay the pensioners, owed allowances since March, 2015, the more than N45 million, held in Account No: 3352041432 at Ecobank. One source that refused to be named told www.calitown.com that of the 4, 619 local government pensioners in the state, 1, 367 of them were not paid their allowances when the last payments were made in March.

Across the state, local government pensioners are experiencing tough times and it doesn’t look like respite is in sight. Officials within the Accountant-General’s Office in Calabar and the Cross River State Local Government Pensions Board, declined comments on enquiries.
