In Support of Eteng Jonah Williams for a Second Term, we, the undersigned (and listed) opinion leaders and critical stakeholders from various wards in Obubra Local Government Area, hereby jointly and unequivocally endorse Eteng Jonah Williams for a second term as Senator representing the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State.
The Central Senatorial District comprises six Local Government Areas: Abi, Boki, Etung, Ikom, Obubra, and Yakurr, historically grouped into two blocs—Old Obubra (Abi, Obubra, Yakurr) and Old Ikom (Boki, Etung, Ikom).
It is a matter of historical record that nearly all the Local Government Areas in the district have produced Senators at different times, with the notable exception of Obubra Local Government Area. While Abi briefly occupied the position during the Third Republic, other LGAs have produced distinguished Senators since the return to democratic governance in 1999, including Matthew Mbu Jr., Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), John Owan Enoh (now Honourable Minister of State for Industry), Sandy Onoh, and the incumbent, Eteng Jonah Williams.
Despite Obubra’s significant contributions to the political growth and stability of the district, no indigene of Obubra has yet had the privilege of representing the Central Senatorial District in the Senate. While we acknowledge that some sons of Obubra have indicated interest in contesting for the Senate seat, they are not members of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), though they retain their democratic right to pursue their ambitions.
As committed APC stakeholders, and following wide consultations with our supporters and political allies, we have resolved to prioritize continuity, stability, and effective representation by endorsing Senator Eteng Jonah Williams for a second term in office.
This endorsement is made with a clear expectation that, upon the successful completion of his second term, Eteng Williams Jones will support the emergence of a credible and qualified candidate from Obubra Local Government Area, in the spirit of equity, fairness, and inclusiveness.
We note with satisfaction that Eteng Jonah Williams has demonstrated commendable leadership through impactful legislative contributions, including bills and motions that have benefited the district. His tenure has also been marked by tangible developmental strides across the senatorial district.
In Obubra Local Government Area, for instance, he has facilitated employment opportunities, installation of solar-powered street lights in rural communities, grading of the Iyamoyong–Okumurutet Road, and the provision of motorized boreholes in communities such as Ovukwa, among other interventions.
We are confident that, if granted another mandate, he will consolidate on these achievements and deliver even greater dividends of democracy to the people.
Accordingly, we call on all party faithfuls, supporters, and well-meaning constituents particularly across Obubra Local Government Area and the entire Central Senatorial District to join us in supporting Eteng Williams Jones for a second term.
E-Signed:
Ernest Irek, Former Member, House of Representatives
(For and on behalf of the Obubra Guidance Council and co-signatories)
