
The family of Nigerian and internationally recognised literary giant and one of Africa’s most respected scholars of drama and theatre, Kalu Uka, has announced burial arrangements for the deceased Professor of Drama and Theatre Arts.
According to a burial schedule obtained by www.calitown.com, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 5:00pm, a commendation service will hold at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Flourishing Parish, Army Road Jetty, Ekorinim II, Calabar, Cross River State.
On Thursday June 25, 2026, at 7:00pm, a service of songs will hold at Professor Kalu Uka’s home, Abuo Rubber, Ohafia, Abia. On Friday, June 26, 2025, a funeral service will hold at the Kanu Civic Centre Hall, Ugwuafia, Ohafia, Abia State from 11:00am.
Interment will follow thereafter at the family compound, Abuo Rubber, Ohafia, Abia State.

A Fulbright Scholar, recognized for expertise in African Drama, Uka taught at the University of Leeds, UK; University of Nigeria Nsukka; University of Calabar and the University of Uyo. He used theatre to blend indigenous storytelling with modern dramaturgy.
Born on March 02, 1938, Uka passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 08, 2026.
