Ministry Of Defence Denies Buhari Wants To Drop Naval Chief

Posted on December 12, 2016 By Admin No Comments on Ministry Of Defence Denies Buhari Wants To Drop Naval Chief

Ibas, Naval Chief
Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence has strongly denied that President Muhammadu Buhari has indicated in writing to Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ette Ibas, a Vice-Admiral, a directive disengaging him from the Nigerian Navy and a further directive to accordingly hand over his office on or before Friday, December 16, 2016.

Colonel Tukur Gusau, Public Relations Officer to the Hononourable Minister of Defence, in a statement while reacting to news making the rounds about this imminent disengagement, stated that, “… there was no such communication between the office of the Honourable Minister of Defence and the Service Chiefs directing any one of them to hand over his office and proceed on retirement. The appointment and replacement of Service Chiefs is a prerogative responsibility of the office of the President and Commander in Chief”, he further noted.

The short release concluded by cautioning that, the press should endevour to always seek balanced and correct information from the right sources to avoid poor reportage and mischief.
