While presenting the cheques, Barr. Idagbo said that the State Government was desirous of completing the Airport Road By-Pass project on time and was collaborating with the Ministry of Lands and Housing to ensure that owners of property and cash crops in the areas are paid their compensation.
He appealed for the co-operation of the Agent and beneficiaries with the contractors when they move to site with equipment, noting that the N17.7 million was the first installment of the value of compensation package. The Works Commissioner disclosed that more money will be released for payment of compensation when contractors are paid and advised the Agent, Gersh Henshaw & co to ensure prompt disbursement to the beneficiaries.
Earlier the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Surv. Ralph uche who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Chris E. Ita welcomed the Commissioner for Works, Barr. Legor Idagbo to the cheques presentation ceremony, stating that his Ministry had done its part in respect of the property enumeration and evaluation exercise. A representative of the Agent, Gersh Henshaw & Co, Mr. Dennis Ukam thanked the State Government and Officials of the Ministries of Works, Lands and Housing for working to ameliorate the plight of the property owners of the Airport Road By-Pass project. About N30 million is still outstanding and liable to be paid to beneficiaries.
