Ogoja Catholic Priest Abducted By Fulani Herdsmen Escapes Death!

Posted on June 16, 2019 By Admin 2 Comments on Ogoja Catholic Priest Abducted By Fulani Herdsmen Escapes Death!
Fr. Awok

A priest of the Catholic Doicese of Ogoja, Rev. Fr. Kizito Awok, yesterday, Saturday, June 15, 2019, escaped death by the whiskers when persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, abducted and led the priest and several others commuting between the Enugu and Agwu expressway, into the bush.

Visibly shaken by the abduction and miraculous escape, Awok took to his Facebook wall this morning, proclaiming the greatness of God and painting a graphic picture of what happened.

He wrote: “…Our God is great! it was a miraculous escape from the hands of Fulani herdsmen yesterday. We were held hostage for about three hours in the forest, between Enugu and Agwu express way. Some of us escaped, while others were marched to the forest. How it happened was God’s intervention. Even with my fluent Hausa and Fulfude, they rejected my identity. Thank God for the soldiers who kept shooting into the air, that distraction gave some of us leverage for escape. The consistent shooting caused panic in their midst. Dear friends pray for those still in their captivity, and those that died from their gunshots. God your are wonderful!!!”

Awgu in Enugu State is bounded by Udi and Nkanu West LGAs of Enugu State. Security sources contacted by www.calitown.com confirmed the story of the priest and further informed that men of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies have mounted a charge into the forest to dislodge the herdsmen, believed to be in their numbers and perpetrating criminal activities on the expressway.

Awok was not available for comments at press time.
