Street Residents Foil Kidnap Attempt In Calabar

What would have been another kidnap case in Calabar, Cross River State, was foiled early Saturday morning, November 4, 2023, by residents of Peter Ojie street, off Winners Way, Calabar.

A source who was at the scene informed www.calitown.com that, the incident “was masterminded by kidnappers who came in a Toyota Camry car, masquerading as people who want to rent chairs from the victim, one Caroline Bassey, twin sister to Joseph Bassey, a retired Permanent Secretary in the CRS civil service.”

“They succeeded in tying one of her aides and putting him in a refrigerator before driving out of her premises with the victim in her personal car.”

Luck however ran out of the suspected kidnappers when a brave street resident blocked the vehicle the victim was being taken in, as an alarm was raised. Sensing trouble, two of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle they came in and made a fruitless attempt to get away in the victim’s vehicle. One of the suspects was intentionally knocked down by the vehicle preventing their escape, prompting a mob response that nabbed the suspect alive.

Security operatives who quickly responded to the situation, coordinated a security operation which resulted in the eventual interception of the other members of the kidnap gang in Akamkpa.
