The burnt suspect

A young male suspect believed to be in his late twenties was early Thursday morning accosted and burnt to death in Calabar by a mob after he allegedly stabbed a young lady around the Eastern Highway area.

Witnesses say the armed suspect while attempting to disposses his victim of her mobile phone, met resistance from his supposed soft target who raised a vicious alarm that attracted residents of the area. In order to free himself from the frantic hold of his victim, the suspect, www.calitown.com was informed, stabbed his victim. Her endless cries for help brought out the mob that chased the suspect into the Goldie cemetery. Those who accosted the suspect, beat him blue and set him ablaze.

“Before l got there, they had burnt him to death. If l got there earlier, l wouldn’t have allowed them burn him to death”, Pearl Bassey, a resident of the area told us over the phone.

Irene Ugbo, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed to www.calitown.com, the killing but submitted that ” it is completely wrong for people to apply jungle justice to any suspect.”
