UGEP: Truck Crush Two To Death

Posted on April 22, 2024 By Admin No Comments on UGEP: Truck Crush Two To Death
The truck at the scene of the accident.

Scores of persons were unable to save an infant and a young girl, when a 40-feet, three axle truck, crashed into the house of the victims, killing them instantly while some who survived the crash were rushed to hospital.

Eyewitnesses at the accident scene informed www.calitown.com that the truck, conveying tons of scrap metal from a scrap metal dump on Magistrate Road, Ugep, Yakurr LGA, Cross River State, at about 10:00 p.m., local time, appear to have experienced a break failure at the top of the junction, leading into the Calabar/Ikom highway.

Suddenly, we were further informed, the truck began to murderously roll back as desperate shouts of caution from inhabitants of the area rent the air. The infant and young girl, believed to be lying outside because of the hot weather, never made it up as the truck fell on them and a few others, completely destroying large portions of the family house. While the late infant was promptly brought out of the debris, it took more than 24 hours before welders could cut through mangled steel, to take out the corpse.

A traumatized family member who does not want his name in print, told us that, “…it is very saddening to witness this kind of horror. In the very comfort of our home, our children were crushed to death…what was their offence?”

Police sources in the area say investigations have since commenced to ascertain the cause of the accident before prosecution in court.
