L-R: Ekpang, Ugbe shake hands after the signing ceremony

The University of Calabar and HIT 95.9 FM, the first urban private radio station in Cross River State, today entered into an agreement that will see students of the new Department of Mass Communication and Digital Studies, Unical, undergo practical learning in HIT FM, as part of the university’s resolve to produce students grounded in theory and practice, www.calitown.com can authoritatively reveal.

Joseph Ekpang, Head of Department, Mass Communication, Unical, who represented the University at the document signing ceremony, came clear that the collaboration will go a long way to help students of the department properly balance their studies. He was also of the view that for what the radio station represents, it is only normal that the university will be drawn to the benefits it can reap from the station’s professional output. Ekpang commended the station for breaking new grounds as the first private radio station in the state and prayed that this collaboration will help Unical produce Mass Communication graduates who can professionally hold their own.

Responding, Patrick Ugbe, MD, HIT FM, expressed joy that the careful selection of the station by the university, for this collaboration, shows clearly that what HIT FM professionally represents, has caught the eye of the institution. Ugbe promised that students of the department will be properly exposed to modern day (radio) broadcasting, something HIT FM offers.

The document signing ceremony took place at the HIT FM premises, in the presence of Unical and HIT FM staff.
