Francisca Bassey, professor and acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State, Unicross, says she is seeking out ways to see how the university can actively collaborate with the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, and reap the benefits of such a collaboration.

Bassey made this disclosure in Calabar, when she paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman, SUBEB, Esu E. Esu, and management staff of the board.

She came clear that the purpose of her visit, beyond the collaboration she seeks, was to also help her become familiar with the management of SUBEB and made a formal appeal to the Executive Chairman to intervene in the basic education school sector, the nursery, primary and secondary schools, attached to Unicross.

SUBEB Chairman, handing over some donated items to the VC.

Esu in his response, promised that he will do everything within his power to make sure that the university staff schools benefit from the basic education programme. Specifically, he mentioned the provision of instructional materials, desks and other interventions that SUBEB can handle. He gave his word that the board will visit Unicross to see things for itself, even identify where she can immediately intervene. He later donated notebooks, textbooks, tablets and interactive boards to the VC for use in the basic education schools in her institution.
