Community youths in Ikom, Cross River Central, have shut down a notorious drug hub along Border Road, Ikom, acting on intelligence gathered after a coordinated operation led by the Ikom Youth Leader, Ojong Obaga.
Sources in Ikom confirmed to www.calitown.com that “this place has become very notorious for being a place where illicit drugs are sold in Ikom. You can even see that the place also has drugs that people inject themselves with and in this era of highly communicable diseases, those who go there and share needles are definitely propagating the spread of these diseases”, a source confidentially told us.
While there have been reported cases of violent conduct at this drug spot, often resulting in bodily harm, the recent vicious attack of a male drug user at the spot, was the final straw that firmed up the community’s resolve to shut down the spot.
When the place was brought down, in the presence of Francis Bojor Ndifon, the Ekpache Nkome President General and several community members, generators, solar panels, computers, phones, car batteries, headlights and other vehicle accessories, scales, cocoa trampoline, bags of nails, household appliances, and some other valuables, believed to have been stolen or handed in as collateral by suspected drug users, were discovered.

We also gathered that, the suspected operator of the drug hub, identified locally as Sinaman, was told to voluntarily report to the community or face dire consequences.
Meanwhile, police sources in Ikom confirmed to www.calitown.com just before press time that the community did not inform them before storming the drug hub. “We just heard that the community stormed and tore down the place. We had brought down the place in the past but didn’t know it was built up again. We will welcome collaborations with the Ikom youths in the future so that apart from bringing down such places, those behind the operation of such places will be adequately prosecuted”, we were told.
