It appears there is no truce in sight as the faceoff between the Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Council, Cross River Central, Ofem Obeten and the Legislature continued today with sources in the area informing www.calitown.com that a band of boys, suspected to be loyal to the council chairman, ensured that the Legislature did not hold plenary.

While all 13 councillors in the Legislature had signed and delivered an Impeachment Notice to the chairman, after he turned down three invitations to appear before the House, critical stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the area, who tried to broker peace, have so far been unsuccessful.

Tuesday afternoon, the 13 councillors regrouped in Ekori, Yakurr LGA and had a private parley with the press, insisting to the press that after young men suspected to be supporters of the chairman prevented them from accessing the legislative chambers, “the chairman gained access into the chambers and began taking pictures of himself to erroneously show that he was in the chambers to honour our invitation but we were not present. This is criminally unfortunate and it is important that we let the world see through this fraud, perpetuated by the chairman”, Usang Usang, Chairman of the House Committee on Information disclosed.

Sources also maintained to www.calitown.com that they suspect the Clerk of the Legislature, who was absent for proceedings, may have been financially induced to stay away as he was spotted in Calabar, in the company of an elite from the area, consistently fingered as being behind the chairman.

“To forestall any breakdown of law and order, it is important that the CRS House of Assembly wade into this matter for the good of our LGA because all 13 councillors of the LGA cannot be wrong and only one man, the chairman, right”, a letter addressed to the CRS House of Assembly stated.
