Work Stands Still In Cross River MDAs

Posted on August 19, 2015August 19, 2015 By Admin No Comments on Work Stands Still In Cross River MDAs

Copy of NEW LOGO OF CRSWork in most government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, in Cross River State, has been at a standstill with www.calitown.com investigations revealing that the situation is tied to the non-release of operational funds to various MDAs by the state government since government changed hands in May, 2015.

Sources inside government further revealed that the situation in most MDAs is so dire that even stationery for the discharge of office functions, is near absent. In various offices across the state, where business has to be transacted on paper, individuals are compelled because of the situation to go to such offices with stationery. Administrative imprests, long appropriated for in the budget, has been held back by government, it was discovered.

A source who has elected to remain anonymous insists that, “broken down vehicles, lack of office equipment, poor on the job motivation, unpaid wages to supportive casual staff, who constitute 10% of the CR labour force, are all combining to threaten the smooth running of the CRS civil service at all levels. Please you people can recall that the 2015 budget passed into law appropriated overhead funds for these civil responsibilities, failure to release approved imprest/subventions to the MDAs is a breach of the budget law”. The situation is also having an adverse effect on the local economy in the state. Most businesses are complaining that patronage is at an all time low as the state government continues to hold back these funds.

But sources within the Office of the Accountant-General of the state seem to offer explanation for the non-release of funds. “You have to understand that there was a change in government, from Imoke to Ayade. The governor directed this office to look at all the financial liabilities in the MDAs; it is not small work and I am happy to say that we have completed that assignment and since the governor is back in the state to attend to matters of government, he should, I believe, look into the work we have done and the recommendations attached so that he will be properly guided in the approvals that should cater to the yearnings of MDAs in the state. Expect the release of these statutory funds in the next week or two”, one source disclosed.
