Nigerian Is New WONCA President

Dan Abubakar, a Cross River State based medical doctor has been elected and ratified as fourth President, World Organization of Family Doctors and Physicians, WONCA, for the African Region.

When he spoke with www.calitown.com, Abubakar, a frontline member of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, who will serve a two-year term, says he will work at stimulating membership growth and expansion to other countries in the African region especially in the Francophone countries. He also said he will encourage positive mileage for Family Physicians in Nigeria, move WONCA (Africa Region) to the next level and make family doctors more relevant in Africa.

Abubakar who is joining six other presidents in the WONCA world council, specially thanked the world president of WONCA Donald Li and world President Elect Anna Stavdal, for supporting his candidature.

Founded in 1972, WONCA is a global not-for-profit professional organization representing family physicians and general practitioners from all regions of the world. It works to progress specific areas of interest to WONCA and its members around the globe.
