Joseph Akinwale, known professionally as Joeboy, has openly used the opportunity of his live stage performance at the 2023 Calabar Christmas Festival to apologize to his music fans in Calabar, Cross River State, after he made a scathing tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter, on the heels of fellow Nigerian act, Mayorkun’s N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira) unfulfilled promise to a fan at the event triggered a fans’ unrest that led to the lose of his necklace and pendant.

In a tweet quickly taken down by Joeboy and one which drew the ire of fans, indigenous Cross Riverians, the state government and even threatened his paid for appearance at the event, the artiste had alluded to the Mayorkun incident via his tweet, “Calabar I am performing in your city on Christmas Day. Abeg no steal my chain.”

Performing at the event, he took time out to beg for forgiveness as his tweet clearly casted aspersions on the state and her inhabitants.

“Do you forgive me?”, he asked on stage before wrapping up his performance. The crowd at the event chorused “yes”, before he went on to his last bit of performance with his hit song, “Blessings”.
