Picture Of The Day!

L – R: The old and new Ikom bridges.

The iron bridge over the Cross River in Ikom, was constructed by the British firm, Tarmac Construction Company in 1973. While it effectively linked up a large part of the State to other parts of Nigeria, it had a challenge. Articulated heavy duty vehicles with high payload were unable to use the bridge because of the bridge’s iron cast thrust system; it came with negative economic consequences.

As a direct response though, the Nigerian government just built a new bridge from scratch which we hear has opened to free flowing traffic. It is a step in the right direction, something we earnestly commend.
