Helen Ukpabio, renowned pastor of the Calabar, Cross River – based, Liberty Gospel Church, has revealed through her verified Facebook page, that she was over the weekend detained for over an hour on the Ogoni section of the East/West road by a solitary gun-wielding policeman, who demanded that she parts with 15 litres of premium motor spirit, known popularly as petrol.

The pastor, who is also a popular Nollywood film producer wrote: “After my programme in Port Harcourt, on my way returning to Calabar, this police man has kept me on Ogoni road for one hour now, asking me to give him 15 liters of fuel and I don’t give bribe.”

She added that: “He ordered my bags be opened and searched thoroughly, even spreading them on the road. Imagine the wickedness!”

After the standoff, the frustrated policemen is said to have let Akpabio and her co-travellers off the hook when he discovered that she wouldn’t bulge. While many comments on her wall did not fault the fact that the policeman stopped and searched the travelling party, his insistence on the 15 litres of fuel is what the man is receiving flak for.
