Security agents in Obubra LGA, Cross River State, have in the last 24 hours worked round the clock to quell pockets of violence that left a filling station vandalized, houses damaged and injuries sustained after a traditional ruler in the area, HRH Ibara Irom, village and clan head of Iyamoyong community, raised alarm that he was allegedly assaulted by council chairman, Kingsley Ibon Arikpo.
Contacted at 8:28 Thursday, February 27, 2025 on +234 906 521 6148, the traditional ruler informed www.calitown.com that he was allegedly slapped twice by the council chairman after he tried to prevent an infraction between his son, Wisdom Ibara and the chairman’s entourage.
Sources in the area told www.calitown.com that the infraction between the traditional ruler’s son and the chairman’s entourage happened as the chairman was returning from Iyametet community. “I think the chairman’s entourage, all on bikes, were unhappy that they were overtaken on the road by Wisdom. They challenged him for overtaking the entourage and every other thing that happened, followed”, we were told.
“Wisdom was chased to his father’s palace by the chairman’s entourage. When they got to the palace, they demanded he be handed over to them. I cannot immediately say how the slaps started but I know that after this anomaly, Wisdom’s bike was impounded by the chairman’s boys, triggering a series of events that ended in the vandalization of the chairman’s filling station, the councillor from the area and one other persons house”, a source who has elected to remain anonymous told us.
Three phone calls to the chairman’s phone number, +2347080712233, for his side of the story, were unattended to at press time. However, the traditional ruler maintained to us that he has forgiven the chairman, “considering that I have a child who is even older than him.”
