Air Peace Scrap Flights To Calabar

Posted on August 18, 2015August 18, 2015 By Admin No Comments on Air Peace Scrap Flights To Calabar

air peaceIndigenous airline, Air Peace, which commenced flights into Calabar from Lagos on August 3, 2015, has announced the cancellation of all flight operations into the Margaret Ekpo International airport, till further notice, according to a statement posted on her website and monitored by www.calitown.com

The statement reads; “Dear esteemed customer, in order to serve you better, flights between Lagos and Calabar have been suspended from Tuesday, August 18, 2015, until further notice. We sincerely regret any and all inconveniences caused”. No reasons were immediately given on the website for the suspension of flight operations to Calabar, however when www.calitown.com got in touch with representatives of the airline in Lagos, it was revealed that the suspension of flights to and from Calabar was operational. Representatives of the airline did not explain further.

Aviation sources in Calabar are however claiming that the airline may have lost ground to Arik and Aero in a high stakes power play between the two dominant airlines on the Calabar – Lagos route, on one hand and Air Peace on the other. A source insists that while the other airlines have kept fares on the route high, Air Peace “dropped in and left the fare at an all time low, making most passengers troop to her, it somehow caused a drop in money made by the other airlines”.

But another source inside the Aero Station in Calabar denied that Air Peace’s flight operations on the route, negatively affected their operations. “We have been around here for a while and built a reputation and loyal clientele, those who seek to come on this route must do more than the work we have done in Calabar all these years. Again, when an airline has operational issues, it is not something to do with another airline, but something mostly domestic, we hope they can get back into the competition soon”.

Initially rumoured to be owned by former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, Lagos-based lawyer and businessman, Allen Onyema, has however publicly claimed ownership of the airline.
